Apple Hobbyist

All things Apple, photography, creativity and nonsense.

A humble beginning. We think you’re going to love it.

How Apple products changed my life. And welcome!

Apple has been a part of my life, whether physically or figuratively for longer than I can remember. I still remember discussing the release of the first iPhone while in elementary school, and the excitement surrounding the iPhone 4 as I approached high school. My friends and I would gather around store catalogues and point to which iPods, iPhones and accessories we would buy if we were adults with an income. I often wish I were an adult during that era so that I could experience first hand the joy that the early iPhones brought to so many people.

Come early 2010; I got very, very lucky. My mother, likely due to the sheer amount that I discussed them and showed her them in the aforementioned catalogues, accepted a considerably amount of overtime at work. With the additional pay she received, she purchased me my first iPod. I always saw this as a very significant thing that she did for me and I still respect the love and care for your child’s interests that she showed me all those years ago. My mother worked incredibly hard, always coming home exhausted, so to put herself through extra strain for me just so I could own a product I dreamed about? I’d say that’s pretty incredible parenting.

On Christmas morning I still remember the mind-numbing excitement I felt when I tore open the wrapping paper and saw that Apple logo gleaming up at me. It was a 6th generation iPod nano, pictured alongside this post, in my favourite colour. I cannot possibly begin to express the excitement in my tiny child-sized heart.

I remember begging to visit my grandmother’s house immediately because despite my mother’s attempts to understand technology she had no comprehension of, she couldn’t quite grasp why I needed a computer in order to use it. We didn’t have a computer nor internet at home. Poor families very rarely did back then. My grandma however did have a good old Windows XP tower PC in the back corner of her living room.

I still recall the drive to her house. I couldn’t sit still. I was desperately trying to decide which CD I would rip first. I was currently using a portal DiscMan as my primary source of music prior to my iPod, so I was lucky enough to have a fairly considerable CD collection for young tween. My family often bought me new CDs for my birthday and Christmas.

Once at my grandma’s house, I loaded up iTunes and got to ripping. It’s a good job we were staying there a while, ripping CDs was not particularly fast! Nothing like downloading music or even streaming today. But it was a different experience, one that brought so much joy. I really enjoyed building my music library, updating the titles and album names, adding the covert art and making my playlists. A lost art that children today will likely never experience. I still to this day use an iPod. I still to this day love building my library and making adjustments, albeit much faster and less clunky (well, a little less clunky) than it was back then.

This is what started it all. A lifetime of loving Apple. Next up was an iPod touch 4th generation, followed by the 1st generation iPad Air, iPhone 5S, 6S, 7, 8 Plus, XR, 11, 12 Pro Max, 2018 MacBook Pro, 2020 MacBook Air, iPhone 13 Pro Max, 27″ iMac, iPad Pro 12.9 (2021), iPhone 14 Pro Max, 16″ MacBook Pro M3 Max, 15 Pro Max, 16 Pro Max and now iPhone Air and a lot of iPods in there along the way. That’s not to mention the Apple Watches, Vision Pro, Apple TVs across my house, HomePods and HomePod minis… the list goes on, but we will get to that, one day.

I have always wanted a space to talk about my love of Apple, ideally where others can relate. Sadly my family and friends don’t really share the same enthusiasm as me, though they try to pretend to be excited on my behalf. As I near 30 I have recognised that I need a space to talk more about my hobbies, and so here we are!

Warning: I am not professional with web editing. In fact: I truly have no idea what I’m doing. I am hoping this website will evolve with time and I will learn to have better control over it and make it look nicer, but please excuse me if for the time being it looks a bit rough around the edges. One step at a time!

I will share more about me and my projects, hobbies, creations etc in the coming posts. For now, you know how I ended up here and why, and I can’t wait to share more soon.

Have a great one.
